Human Rights Conversations: An Introduction to Human Rights Practice is the first textbook where students and others will learn from human rights practitioners on the ground. The book consists of 110 conversations from individuals in 47 countries.

We cover topics that will be especially of interest to today’s learners including gender-based violence on college campuses, climate change and human rights, the rights of rivers, cultural heritage protection, menstrual rights, sex workers’ rights, and many more.  We also have letters to human rights students from women’s rights defenders from several countries. One of the chapters is devoted to Rohingya poetry from refugees in Bangladesh, and others focus on artwork by amazing artivists.

The last chapter encourages students to continue the conversation via the companion website which is nearly complete. We have already gained permission from all the authors and for almost all the images.

We have 9 very distinguished volume co-editors that include two former UN Special Rapporteurs, an attorney for the then UN Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and the former vice-chair of the UN Working Group on Discrimination against Women and Girls, as well as several distinguished professors and activists.
